Hi Jackie, I just listened to your episode with Dan neuffer. I heard you mention that a big piece of recovery for you was identifying what you were doing before becoming unwell that contributed, while also not blaming yourself. I can really relate as I was also very stressed, perfectionistic, overworking and over exercising prior to having covid. My question is, can you speak to how you did this? How did you work through the self blame (if you had any) and come to an embodied understanding that it wasn't your fault? Thank you :)
The first segment of the episode addresses the role that stress, perfectionism, and a relentless work ethic may have played in the speaker's illness. It's a candid reflection on the personal journey of navigating self-blame while acknowledging that becoming unwell was not their fault. The episode stresses the value of identifying lifestyle factors contributing to stress and how therapy can facilitate this process. Therapy serves as a tool to dig deep into patterns that, while possibly protective in childhood, may become detrimental in adulthood. This awareness is the first step towards healing, allowing for a more resilient self to emerge.
As we move into the second segment, the focus shifts to the journey of self-compassion and authenticity. Here, we explore the transformative power of releasing blame and embracing the present without the burden of perfection.
